I thought I’d write a little post about my blog name and how it came to be. I have been wanting to start a blog for over a year now, but just put it off and told myself I’d get to it someday. Well, sometimes you need to just make your someday today and go for it! This past week I had talked about seriously starting a blog with my husband since I wasn’t sure which web publishing application to go with and exactly how to begin. So the next step was to see if the name I had in mind was in use. I wanted the name to be meaningful to me and kind of an all encompassing name to cover anything I wanted in the blog. I didn’t want to limit myself to just food/cooking, being a mom, photography or any single topic. I didn’t want anything too personal like my name. My first choice was Click Your Heels. I liked that because my favorite movie of all time is The Wizard of Oz. I have a bunch of Wizard of Oz collectibles I’ve collected over the years and received as gifts. Our baby nursery was Wizard of Oz themed and I can still remember the first time I watched the movie with my mom. It never gets old. It’s a true classic with remarkable film techniques and development for it’s time. It’s interesting because this month also marks the 75th Anniversary of the film’s release. The whole theme of the movie is one I take to heart. There’s no place like home. You can take that so many different ways. Home as in physically home, home as in remembering old memories, home as in making a home wherever you land. In the last few years we’ve moved away from our “home” and most of our family and we will be moving again soon so I think of clicking my heels to adapt to my new surroundings and make wherever we may live, our Home. I also like the word “click” in there since it ties in with my love of photography and slowly trying to learn more and be a better photographer. The name Click Your Heels can also mean, clicking your heels as in happiness. So I really didn’t have many other blog names because I was so stuck on that one. However, someone already owns the .com with that name. Also there are several Click Your Heels businesses and Facebook pages so I wanted to be a little more original.
My husband tried to hunt for names that were similar but found that they were already taken as well. Man, I just couldn’t catch a break!! He suggests Clickin My Heels, but what I think he says is Clicking My Heels. I agree that’s the name and he confirms it, pays the annual fee and bam, here comes the confirmation email on my phone. We were sitting across the room from each other. Man, he types fast! I read it and say, “Wait!! I didn’t want it to be Clickin My Heels! I wanted Clicking My Heels.” I’m laughing thinking you can just change it. I tell him he needs to enunciate better next time. But nope, it’s a done deal and can’t just be corrected and he checked and Clicking My Heels was already taken anyway, that was one he had already checked before. I told him, it’s like that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Amy and Robert’s wedding invites go out with her parents listed as Pat’n Hank. We laughed about it, and hopefully the name will grow on me. So that’s the story of my blog name, in case you were curious.
I think it’s a great name! And, the “click in” could also be a play on “dig in my heels.” – Like you’ve set your mind on something and you’re gonna do it!
